Children's Services

Counseling

Each year, Life Management Center provides individual family, or group counseling to over 3,000 children or adolescents or their parents.  Our counselors help with personal problem areas that include parent-child conflict, stress reactions, anxiety and depression, school adjustment, abuse, delinquency, and adverse reaction to divorce, illness or other severe events.

Medical Services

Medication may be a very important treatment component for some psychiatric disorders.  Life Management Center's psychiatrists and nursing staff provide psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and ongoing consultation to individuals and their family members to help achieve and maintain maximum stability.

Home-Based Intervention

Some families may need service delivered in the home.  Intensive counseling and/or parent skills training are often most effective when received in a home rather than office setting.  Life Management Center outreach counselors specialize in in-home services.

Overlay Services

Children who have been removed from their original homes and placed in foster homes, adoptive homes, detention centers or delinquency commitment programs may demonstrate serious emotional or behavioral problems.  Life Management center staff provide assessment and treatment services to children and consultation to caregivers at the new residence.

Residential Treatment/Hospitalization

In some cases, severe life adjustment and emotional problems may require 24 hour care and treatment available only in residential or hospital programs.  Life Management Center staff complete the necessary evaluations and arrangements for residential or hospital treatment at other local or out-of-town psychiatric facilities.

Evaluation and Consultation

Psychological testing or other specialized evaluations coupled with professional consultation may be of particular value in making decisions about personal adjustment issues.  Evaluation and consultation services may assist parents, teachers, physicians, attorneys, and other individuals in areas such as:

bullet

Mental health services planning.

bullet

Comprehensive medical assessment and rehabilitation.

bullet

Court-related determinations relative to abuse, delinquency, or child custody.

bullet

Education for gifted, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, or academically underachieving students.

Workshops, Seminars and Training

Life Management Center is a valuable training and education resource for the community.  The Center's professional staff members are available to speak to community groups concerning a variety of child and family adjustment and mental health topics.  Continued education workshops and seminars are conducted for area professionals.  Specialized training is offered for childcare workers.  The Center's Children's Services program is a training site for college and university psychology and social work programs.
